tickled pink

I started 'abstracting' animals a few years back, to play with the patterns and shapes that make up their anatomy. This horse was initially painted for the Calgary Stampede Art Show, and I chose to keep it in my own Collection until now. The vibrant warm tones are some of my favourite colours, and remind me of watching these majestic animals out on the ranch, in the glow of a setting sun.  Inspired by the paintings of Expressionist artist Franz Marc, animals, Marc felt, were in many ways superior to humans — more honest in their expression of their inner truths, in more direct contact with the inner truths of nature.
